TOP STORY

Briefly: Kim Rivers, CEO of Trulieve, argues cannabis legalization in Florida could enhance residents' quality of life.

Quoted: Asked whether Floridians will pass the legalization measure. which was approved last week by the Florida Supreme Court to appear on the November 2024 ballot, Rivers replied, "Hell yeah."

So Basically: Rivers pointed to data comparing marijuana to alcohol, saying that Florida voters stand to benefit from "having an alternative [to alcohol] that is absolutely, scientifically, evidence-backed" healthier.

Having Said That: The ballot measure needs to garner at least 60% of the vote required to become a constitutional amendment.

So What: Rivers’ confidence is not unfounded. After all, medical marijuana was approved in 2016 by 71% of Florida voters.

What Next: Kim Rivers, founder, chair and CEO of Trulieve, is a speaker at the upcoming Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Hollywood, Florida, April 16-17.

Briefly: The Canadian cannabis sector is witnessing a notable upswing, driven by recent developments including Tilray's earnings report, Organigram's investor day and pivotal movements by Canopy Growth and Aurora Cannabis.

So Basically: Senior analyst Pablo Zuanic from Zuanic & Associates offered a high-level primer without investment opinions, highlighting key market dynamics and potential future shifts.

So Then: Recent legislative changes in Canada, Germany and the U.S. have positively impacted Canadian Licensed Producers, with several stocks doubling in the past month.

Having Said That: Liquidity issues in cannabis persist. Zuanic believes the most successful companies could significantly increase their market value, though they currently remain valued at about 2 to 3 times their sales, despite recent price increases.

So What: "Given the poor liquidity of the US MSOs, with stocks like Green Thumb and Trulieve only trading $5-6 million a day and being the most 'liquid', several Canadian Licensed Producers stocks are used as proxies for US exposure, Zuanic wrote in a recent analyst note.
