TOP STORY

Briefly: In a recent interview, industry expert and manager at Poseidon Investment Fund Emily Paxhia, laid out three main pathways along which cannabis legalization might happen.

Federal Rescheduling Route: The initiative to reclassify cannabis under federal law and designate it as a Schedule III substance is under review by the DEA, following a recommendation from the HHS.

Legislative Route: Optimism is high for legislative progress in 2024, particularly following the advancement of the SAFER Banking Act, which aims to bridge the gap between federal and state laws by facilitating banking and financial services for cannabis businesses.

Judicial Route: A group of cannabis companies in Massachusetts have challenged the interpretation of the Controlled Substances Act in court. ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD

Briefly: Country music legends David and Howard Bellamy, known as The Bellamy Brothers, joined Trulieve's CEO Kim Rivers on the stage at the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference.

So Basically: The Bellamy Brothers are members of the advocacy group Safe and Smart Florida which was largely responsible for placing a constitutional amendment to legalize recreational cannabis on the Florida ballot.

So Then: Trulieve was and still is a major backer of the effort, which paid off several weeks ago when the proposal was cleared by the state Supreme Court to appear on the November 2024 ballot.

Quoted: "What did you do when you heard cannabis legalization had finally made it onto the ballot?" Rivers asked them. "We rolled a fat one!" said David, pointing out that his brother Howard was one of the first people in Florida to have a medical marijuana card.
