TOP STORY
Briefly: State Senator Stephen West filed a bill to increase the number of eligible conditions for medical marijuana from six to 21.
What Happened: The new bill is viewed as a positive development among patient advocates and businesses looking to invest in Kentucky’s medical pot program which will go into effect in January 2025.
What Next: The bill will need support among the GOP caucus, which is divided over legalizing medical marijuana.
Why It Matters: "If it’s appropriate that the market expands because that’s what the science tells us, then we’ll do that — increase conditions," said a GOP State Representative. "But if it doesn’t, then we won’t. We’re not going to do it just to give them more customers."

ONE FOR THE ROAD
Briefly: Jesse Channon, president of The Cannabist Company Holdings and upcoming speaker at the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Florida, spoke on the industry giant’s uniquely collaborative approach.
So Basically: As the organization moves forward from its previous identity as Columbia Care, Channon’s strategic actions in establishing partnerships and rebranding are reshaping the cannabis industry.
So Then: Guided by Channon, The Cannabist Company has initiated a partnership with Airo Brands, marking a considerable development in cannabis vaporization available within its dispensaries, starting with three locations in Delaware.
So What? Channon sees the emerging cannabis industry as constantly in flux, and considers adaptability a competitive edge. “Columbia Care was absolutely the right brand to get us where we were,” he said, but the new name aligns with the changing needs of consumers and the internal team.
What Next: The launch of the new retail format in spring 2021 was “incredibly well received,” indicating a successful move toward engaging a wider audience. You can ask Channon about that and more at the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference returning to Florida on April 16 and 17, 2024.
