Welcome back to the Benzinga Cannabis Newsletter after what we hope was an eventful and restful weekend. Maureen Meehan and Javier Hasse here. We kick off our Tuesday newsletter with all forms of cannabis consumption, from a miracle machine that can roll up to 900 joints per hour to THC-infused gummies and chocolates delivered to your front door to a cannabis/beer company that’s rolling in profits.
In today's issue:
The Problem With Pre-Rolls: A Connoisseur’s Perspective
Benzinga’s Javier Hasse had a long sit-down with Kyle Loucks, founder and CEO of RollPros who described his brain child: a proprietary system that flips the traditional cone-filling process on its side—literally. "We feed horizontally, so you can fill fresh, sticky weed with a big grind size. Then we roll it and tighten it as we go. It's just a better way to make a joint," Loucks told Hasse.
With more than 80 million joints produced and a growing roster of customers ranging from boutique craft growers to large-scale MSOs, RollPros is becoming a cornerstone of the cannabis pre-roll industry, Hasse tells us. And it’s only the beginning!
THC-Infused Drinks, Gummies, Candy Coming Soon To Your Front Porch Via DoorDash, Including Hemp Products And Beverages
Busy cannabis consumers can soon order their products from various merchants, such as DashMar - DoorDash’s fulfillment platform and store, which offers “businesses a new channel to reach customers locally.” DoorDash has also added what it calls “an easily shoppable page" featuring hemp-derived products and non-alcoholic beverages for those who are observing “Dry January” or who want to permanently enjoy sipping rather than smoking.
Speaking Of Sipping: Tilray’s Beer And Cannabis Sales Report Earnings
Tilray Brands (NASDAQ: TLRY) reported some good news Friday. The cannabis/beer company reported that its second-quarter net revenue increased 9% year-over-year to $210.95 million. The company’s beverage alcohol net revenue increased 36%. Cannabis net revenue was $66 million in the second quarter compared to $67 million in the prior year quarter.
To streamline operations and boost profitability across its beverage brands, Tilray launched Project 420, which is expected to deliver $25 million in cost savings and synergies.
