Briefly: DeSantis is sending Florida troopers to take on drug smuggling at the Texas border.

What: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says Sunshine State Troopers will be deployed based on Texas' needs as the state deals with supposed illegal drugs and violent crime associated with border crossings.

Back Up: While still in the GOP primary race, DeSantis said, “If someone in the drug cartels is sneaking fentanyl across the border when I’m president, that’s gonna be the last thing they do. We’re gonna shoot them stone-cold dead.”

So What? This aggressive response to drug enforcement is another footnote in the decades-long War on Drugs, which many have deemed a failure as the DEA considers rescheduling cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III.
