đź’¨ Blowing O's In The Oval Office
Senator Elizabeth Warren's cannabis crush. Plus, cannabis politics matter.
Happy Tuesday, Investors! Apparently there aren’t many smoke seshes in the Oval Office — or, if there are, they aren’t any good.
Senator Elizabeth Warren recently gave her dream blunt rotation. Choosing from a list that included President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Senator Bernie Sanders, Warren snubbed all of the above. Instead, she simply picked Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — “four times.”
Plus, one former streetwear tycoon is bringing brand loyalty to the cannabis industry.

TOP STORY
Briefly: Age might seem like the deciding factor now, but could the 2024 Presidential Election ultimately hinge on cannabis legalization instead?
So Basically: Both Biden and Trump have had opportunities to attract voters by legalizing or otherwise reforming cannabis laws but have chosen to only take baby steps or pay lip service to the issue.
From Biden: The Biden administration’s HHS recommended that the DEA reschedule cannabis in August, but the agency behind the War on Drugs reiterated it has the final say in the matter.
From Trump: The former president has said marijuana does “significant damage” while acknowledging that “from a voting standpoint, it's pretty popular thing.” He has also called for the death penalty for drug dealers, despite having pardoned several people convicted of selling drugs in 2021.
So What? Both candidates, regardless of their age, could show some wisdom and boost their party's voter turnout by getting serious about real cannabis reform.

ONE FOR THE ROAD
Briefly: New Jersey is on track to reach $1 billion in cannabis sales in 2024.
So Basically: The top cannabis official in the state, Jeff Brown, spoke about ways to boost the state's marijuana industry in the years to come, citing proposed rules to expand edible offerings at retailers as an example.
Quoted: “I've seen enough now in the data — 2024 is the year this is the billion-dollar market. This is the year that New Jersey does a billion dollars in cannabis sales.”
So What? "I'm not counting on federal legalization happening anytime soon,” Brown concluded, “but nonetheless we want to make sure businesses in New Jersey are prepared to compete whenever that opportunity arises."
