Briefly: In a recent interview, UFC Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley revealed his unorthodox training strategy: using cannabis to “hyper-focus” during rigorous training sessions.
So Basically: O’Malley’s daily ritual is carefully thought out to optimize his training. “I use it especially in camp… Pretty much once a day,” he shared, highlighting how it aids in his longer, lower heart rate workouts.
So Then: Consequently, this approach enables him to focus on the task at hand, whether it’s shadow boxing, cycling or jogging.
So What? Fighting — or even focusing — might not be the first thing you associate with cannabis use. But for a variety of reasons, it is often favored by athletes. Some pro sports leagues are finally coming around to this, but the UFC recently advised fighters to quit cannabis to avoid fines.
